Re-entering the workforce after a workplace incident can result in a lack the confidence or physical strength to enter back into a suitable position. When this is the case a Host Employer can be arranged as a ‘stepping stone’ to returning to work. Smart Rehab can organise a host placement in an appropriate industry.

A Work Place Assessment may be necessary prior to an ongoing host placement. Smart Rehab’s Occupational Therapists and Psychologists are able to conduct a Work Place Assessment and develop a Suitable Duties Program prior to commencement of a host placement.

Smart Rehab’s host employers have:

• Close communication with Smart Rehab staff
• An understanding of the role of Host placement in Rehabilitation
• An understanding of the individual’s limitations

Case Study:

Helen originally was treated by Smart Rehab for depression following a back injury at work. Towards the end of her counseling her symptoms of depression had reduced however she still did not have the confidence to return to work. Smart Rehab was able to suggest to her a host placement doing office work two days a week with a legal firm. This gave her the opportunity to develop confidence and new skills. Through monitoring she was also able to assess her limitations. Soon she found that she could work 3 days a week. Now a few months on she is fully rehabilitated and has a permanent part-time job which she enjoys.
